She scrubbed the blood up with disinfectant wipes. She could do the whole bucket and mop thing but why? She’d only just gotten started. Granted, it took nearly a whole canister of them to clean up, but whatever. She scrubbed the old grimy tile well, filled a plastic grocery bag with the rust-colored wipes. She even cleaned the toilet inside and out, just in case.

In the kitchen, she found the whisky bottle. It’s green glass barely managed to shield her from the fact that most of the amber liquid was depleted.

She groaned aloud, grabbed the bottle, and stood on tiptoe to put it in the cabinet above the sink. She lost her grip on it and it toppled, bouncing off the lip of the sink, shattering on the way down.

She froze, floor littered with shards of broken glass. She was barefoot. Not in the mood for an emergency room trip.

She squatted down and got another grocery sack from under the sink. She started to put the most wickedly sharp bits in the bag. One thick chunk caught her attention. She picked it up. Sliding her finger along its deadly curve. Not hard enough to cut herself.

She heard something. Then realized she was sobbing.
